Vast expanses of land and sea separate the capital in Helena from Martyrs' Square in Benghazi and the rain forests of Liberia. The political campaigns of politicians in Great Falls seem far removed from Maoist party candidates in Nepal or women's' rights organizers in Kiev. But despite their differences, the basic mechanics of organizing a political campaign or drafting legislation hold true whether they occur in an emerging democracy or in Montana.

David Hunter has been a central figure in Montana politics for more than 30 years. He has managed election campaigns for Gov. Ted Schwinden, Rep. Pat Williams and Sen. Max Baucus. He has served as both Secretary of the Montana Senate and Chief Clerk of the Montana House of Representatives.
