For twenty years, Central and Eastern Europe have both been solid models of democratization, with Poland at the forefront. From its solidarity movement that spread through the country in the 1980s, Poland is leading the way in this transformation to democracy in the region.
By way of its four boards--the American Center for International Labor Solidarity (ACILS), the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), and the International Republican Institute (IRI)--Gershman said that NED “ensures that democratic issues are getting the attention and help that they need around the world.”
