Corruption in Iraq’s bloated public sector is on the rise, according to tens of thousands of government workers who responded to a recent survey by the country’s Commission on Integrity.
The country’s worsening corruption scourge is likely been an issue in local council elections on Thursday in the restive Sunni-majority provinces of Nineveh and Anbar, where residents have kept up months of protests against the Shiite-backed government in Baghdad.
