The President of Tunisia’s National Constituent Assembly, Mustapha Ben Jaafar, was hosted at a small dinner in Washington, D.C., May 6 by NDI Vice Chairman Thomas Daschle and NDI President Ken Wollack. Dr. Ben Jaafar discussed the commitment of Tunisia's political leaders to resolving differences through consensus as they steered the country through its democratic transition and the drafting of a new constitution.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is the next most popular leader with an approval rating of 64 percent, followed by the Speaker of the Parliament David Usupashvili with an approval rating of 61 percent.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Celebrating women’s political empowerment, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) will award its 2014 Madeleine K. Albright Grant to Aswat Nisaa (Women’s Voices) of Tunisia at a May 19 award luncheon at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will deliver the keynote address.
