What's New at NDI Gender, Women and Democracy (GWD):

16 Days of Activism

The annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign is currently up and running; this year's theme focuses on the effects of violence on girls' education. Education and democracy go hand-in-hand, and the inclusion of the safety of girls and women is extremely vital to the success of this campaign. Be sure to check out @NDIWomen's active participation in the ongoing Twitter conversations about the campaign!

Violence Against Women Roundtable

Next week, to mark the end of the 16 Days of Activism, GWD will host a workshop on Violence Against Women in Politics, in order to open up a conversation about the problem, exchange data and research, and begin to map the solutions to eliminate violence that targets women in politics.

Examining the Puzzle of Non-Western Democracy

On December 2nd, GWD participated in a roundtable at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, with guest speakers: Sandra Pepera, Richard Youngs, Shadi Hamid, and Thomas Carothers. Panelists discussed concepts from Youngs' new book: Examining the Puzzle of Non-Western Democracy, and the search for variation in democratic practice around the world. Miss the event? Check out Carnegie's video of the discussion here.
