NDI is proud to launch a completely redesigned website. The new website, unveiled to the public on January 12, preserves the best features of the old website, while updating underlying technology and refreshing the design to improve usability and meet modern web standards. The new site features a more visually-engaging and mobile-friendly design, deep social media integration and a re-structured information architecture that will make NDI’s work more accessible than ever before.

Kosovo is Europe’s youngest country, having declared independence in 2008 following United Nations’ oversight in the wake of armed conflict with Serbia. Fittingly, Kosovo boasts Europe’s youngest population. Kosovars young and old are building sovereign institutions of government and are creating a culture of civic activism.

Guinean women in local political parties and civil society organizations (CSOs) are frustrated over the current state of women’s political inclusion in Guinea:  “We are tired of singing and dancing,” said Mama Kouyate of the ruling Rally of the Guinea People (Rassemblement du Peuple Guineen - RPG Arc en Ciel) during a recent advocacy workshop organized by NDI.

In early December, 30 delegates from 14 countries and four continents began arriving in Accra, Ghana for NDI’s international election observation mission. Experts had warned that the December 7, 2016 election, much like the 2012 election, would likely be very close. But this time there were fears of violence and low confidence in the country’s electoral institutions and staunchly partisan political actors.

Western Africa’s Sahel region “has for several years known an unprecedented security crisis,” according to NDI Central and West Africa Director Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh.

As part of the Civic Tech Leadership Program funded by the Aspen Institute Stevens Initiative, NDI and the Institute for Representative Government hosted a live virtual town hall on December 1, in which former Members of the U.S. Congress spoke to over 150 young leaders located in the Middle East, North Africa  (MENA) and United States. Ukraine’s parliament (Verkhovna Rada) is in a race to deliver the sweeping democratic reforms demanded by Ukrainians during the Revolution of Dignity. However, faced with an economic crisis and ongoing war, parties in parliament have struggled to enact these policies. Current legislative procedures and fragmented political dynamic among parliamentary factions have only compounded the challenges of pushing through changes.
